How do Dentures and Partial Dentures Work?
There are two types of dentures: complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, and partial dentures are used when some of the natural teeth remain.
There are two types of complete dentures available for our Jupiter, Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach patients. ‘Conventional dentures’ are made after the teeth have been removed and the gums have begun to heal. About 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed; the conventional denture is ready for placement.
‘Immediate dentures’ on the other hand are made in advance, and these can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed. The advantage here is the patient does not have to be without teeth during the healing period.
When there are natural teeth remaining, a partial denture or bridge can be used. A removal partial denture consists of natural-looking replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base. This base is connected by a metal framework to hold the denture in place in the mouth.
